Classroom Procedures
Daily Folders:
Children will bring home a folder daily. The folder has two pockets, one for items to "Keep at Home" and the other for items to "Return to School". You may also send notes or communicate with me by using the "Return to School" pocket. I will check the folder each day. Within the folder is a daily behavior report on which students will record the number of Dojo points they earn each day (and teacher comments if necessary). There is also a Reading Log on which students will record the books they have read at home during the month. Most school flyers and student work will be sent home on Fridays.
Homework:
A weekly homework packet will be sent home on Mondays and should be returned by the following Monday. Try to work on the homework packet at intervals of 15-20 minutes each day, rather than completing the entire packet in one sitting. Your child will also bring home a book or reading sheet to read on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Books read at home will need to be recorded on the monthly Reading Log kept within the Daily Folder.
Snacks:
Children will have a snack time every morning. Children need to bring their own healthy snacks that will provide their bodies with the nutrients needed to continue being successful throughout the school day. Recommended snacks include: raw fruits and vegetables, granola bars, string cheese, pretzels, crackers, yogurt, and etc. We do not consider candy/chocolate or soda drinks to be a snack, so children will not be able to eat these items during snack time if they are brought. Children may bring a water bottle or juice box as part of their snack.
Birthday Bags:
Children are welcome to celebrate their birthday (or half-birthday if they were born in the summer months) with the class. However, please understand that we cannot have a "party" for your child at school due to food allergies, religious beliefs, and loss of instructional time.
Birthday celebrations will include:
1. We will sing "Happy Birthday!"
2. Your child will receive a "Happy Birthday" certificate and pencil.
3. Your child may provide birthday treat bags or packaged treats to be sent home with each of their classmates. These treat bags may include things like pencils, stickers, erasers, small toys, etc. Packaged treats would include items like fruit snacks, cracker/cookie bags, juice boxes, etc.
